Great North Run 2019
Sunday 8th September 2019 saw the 39th staging of the Simplyhealth Great North Run, the UK’s biggest mass participation running event.
57,000 runners made the 13.1 mile journey from Newcastle to South Shields, crossing the iconic Tyne Bridge and enjoying fantastic spectator support all along the route.
The run was devised by former Olympic 10,000 meter bronze medallist Brendan Foster.
This year Premier’s Northern Correspondent Ian Britton was at St Luke’s church, Newcastle upon Tyne, right by the start line to meet some of this years runners and give them chance to share their stories of why they were running the Great North Run.
