New Chair of Newcastle upon Tyne Methodist District

The Revd. Stephen Lindridge was welcomed as the new Chair of the Newcastle upon Tyne Methodist District on Friday 21st August at a special service in St. Mark’s Methodist Church, Gateshead.

A packed church was lead in a time of worship followed by a series of short reflections on the themes of Tradition, Scripture, Reason and Experience. Then the Revd Gareth Powell, Secretary of the Conference, presented Stephen to those present from churches across the district as well as North East Church leaders and ecumenical friends. Promises were made and then Stephen was welcomed as the new chair.

During Stephens’s comments in response to the official welcome he paid tribute to his predecessor the Rev Leo Osborn and his wife Charlotte. He said “I know we build on the foundation of Jesus Christ but what a wonderful position I feel I am coming into in building on the work that Leo has so faithfully done for the church in these last 14 years in partnership with the wonderful people of the Newcastle District.”

Looking to the future he said “By the grace of God I find myself here tonight and it is the grace of God that I trust in.”

Ian Britton, Premier’s Regional Producer for the North, attended the welcome service and you can listen to his recording of the service below.
