Urban Evangelist Building Bridges In Leeds

During more than 20 years in the army Neil Obbard served in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq as a special operations combat operator.

He was also attached to the SAS in a supporting role for combat missions at various times.

He suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder before finding faith in Jesus on a Mothers’ Union Holiday.

Now thanks to the Church Army in partnership with the Diocese of Leeds and Missional Youth Church Network, he has moved with his wife Tina onto the Seacroft estate in Leeds to work with a volunteer team to reach out to young people with the Good News of the Gospel.

Neil told Premier “There's lots of foundational work that the Lord has done within this area. And it's great to just come and be alongside that and go right, let's take this forward.”

Neil shared some of his hopes for this area of Leeds with Premier’s Northern Correspondent Ian Britton.
