Over 240 pupils from eleven primary schools joined the Choristers of Durham Cathedral to take part in the celebration, which represents the culmination of a term’s work with Durham Cathedral’s Music Outreach Programme.

Each school term, the Cathedral Choristers and James Randle, Director of Music Outreach at Durham Cathedral, visit and work with primary schools from across the region to train them and their teachers in 45 minutes of song. Over the six weeks, the children have memorised several songs, many of them with harmony arrangements.

James Randle said: “The Music Outreach programme has gone from strength to strength through the years. The eleven participating primary schools have worked extremely hard to learn their songs, and we look forward to celebrating their achievement in the company of their friends and family”.

Schools participating in this term’s celebration included All Saints Catholic VVA Primary; Belmont CE Primary; Bishopton Redmarshall CE Primary; Esh CE (Aided) Primary; Heighton CE Primary; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs’ RCVA Primary, Esh Winning; St Anne’s CE Primary; St Joseph’s RC Primary, Ushaw; St Joseph’s RCVA Primary, Stanley; St Michael’s RCVA Primary; Trinity Primary

Premier’s Northern Correspondent Ian Britton joined family and friends for a very special performance and you can listen to his report below.
