This year 57,000 runners made the 13.1 mile journey from Newcastle to South Shields, crossing the iconic Tyne Bridge and enjoying fantastic spectator support all along the route.

Over the years those taking part in the Great North Run have helped raise half a billion pounds for charity.

Premier’s Northern Correspondent Ian Britton was there at the start for Inspirational breakfast.

He caught up with some of the charity runners as well as the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.
