The festival has become a bi-annual fixture on Heaton’s community calendar with more than 10,000 people soaking up the festival atmosphere.
The organisers are hoping to get even more people this time, by expanding the scope of what they are able to offer. This year the people of Heaton can look forward to 3 stages of live performance, entertainments with local sport teams, local community bands, choirs, dance groups, craft activities, crazy games, inflatables and a food zone. A large part of the entertainment and activities will be provided by residents of the Heaton area.
Festival Co-ordinator Mark Ridyard told Premier “It’s fantastic that Heaton Festival is back for a fourth time in 2017 and we’re planning for even bigger and better this time. There will be something for everyone to enjoy no matter what their interest. As well as lots of entertainment we’re also trying to show people all the brilliant things going on in Heaton, so that they might get involved and build our community together”
The festival began in response to the churches of Heaton wanting to bring together the community of Heaton in order to celebrate it and show what there is on offer. Whether people live, work, or attend school or church in Heaton, they want everyone to appreciate what a great place it is.
With that in mind the festival tries to include every aspect of life in Heaton during the day of the festival and in so doing encourage groups and individuals, help them to be more successful and our community to grow together as a whole.
The Heaton Festival is on this Saturday 25 June from 12 noon – 7pm in Heaton Park, Newcastle upon Tyne.
