It’s an important moment in the life of the dale and it’s remarkable that they’ve managed to go ahead this year after the wide spread flooding a month ago.

Steve Clough from the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team was at the show and said the flash flooding was “quite an extraordinary event” and it was “unbelievable” to see Reeth Show take place just 4 weeks later.

He continued “On the surface you can see the recoveries on and away but underneath there are plenty of homes that people won’t be in for six months”.

One of the many homes affected was the local vicarage which has left the local vicar Rev Caroline Hewlett homeless.

She told Premier she was now “developing a ministry of house sitting” as well as experiencing the “love and care of so many”.

Bishop Helen-Ann, The Bishop of Ripon, was also at Reeth Show having already visited Swaledale a number of times to offer he support.

Looking to the future, at this time of harvest, Bishop Helen-Ann told Premier she would like to encourage people to “Pray for the people who work the land and care for it and who do so much to put food on our tables.”

Premier’s Northern Correspondent Ian Britton went along to the show and you can listen to his report by clicking below.
