Martin took up the role in September and was then formally commissioned at their 150th anniversary celebrations in Motherwell. (1st-2nd November 2019)
Welcoming the appointment of Martin Hodson, the current General Director Rev Alan Donaldson said, “Martin has been an invaluable colleague for the last 4 years and has brought great wisdom, strategic thinking and humble leadership to our Union. I look forward to all that God will do through Martin’s ministry in the comings years as he leads us forward.”
After an initial career in production management, Martin was involved in church-planting in Cumbria before beginning as a Baptist minister at Bridge of Don in Aberdeen. He went on to become team leader at St Peter’s Baptist Church in Worcester. For the last four years, he has served the Baptist churches in Scotland as Ministry Development Coordinator, with a particular focus on the continuing development of ministers, the support of pre-accredited ministers and the settlement of ministers. His aim is to live out the vocation of a missionary disciple and equip others for this calling through exemplary leadership, teaching, and training.
A short while after being appointed, Martin addressed the Baptist Union of Scotland Council, saying “I’m convinced God has called me to serve. A few years ago God called me to become a servant of ministers across the country and now I receive God’s call to serve our whole family of churches as General Director.”
