It was a defining moment for the fellowship and they agreed to work with Word 4 Weapons to place a Knife surrender bin outside the church building.

Since then nearly 600 weapons have been placed in the Knife surrender bin.

The West Midlands Police Crime and Commissioner David Jamieson said: “The weapon surrender bins are there so people can do the right thing and rid our streets of knives, guns and ammunition.

“It is a welcome sight to see them being embraced and used by the community.

On the fifth anniversary of the opening of the box Premier’s Northern Correspondent Ian Britton heard about the impact of the scheme from Baptist minister Jonathan Summerville.
