In this World War I documentary – aired on the centenary of when Britain went to war – we examine the poetry of the period: poems that reveal the true bravery and atrocity of life on the frontline.

Written by Lisa Mainwaring, this programme features Leon Conrad (co founder of the Academy of Oratory), poetry performer Lance Pierson and Edmund Matyjaszek of the Poetry Society.

This documentary features the work of Christian poets, including Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen, and discovers how poetry was used to inject a sense of patriotism at the start of the war.
