The book of Lamentations reflects on the failure in godliness among believers which had the harsh consequence of Jerusalem’s despoiling and the exile of God’s people six centuries before Christ. Jerusalem symbolises in her sin and restoration the fragility and beauty of human beings. In Lent we rejoice in the good news of Christ who establishes the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting (Apostles’ Creed).
Parliament has authorised Theresa May to trigger Article 50 and set in motion negotiations for Britain to leave the EU. I expect her to do this on 30th March, before Parliament recesses, bringing stage one of Brexit to an end. That was the easy stage. What follows is more unpredictable and more demanding on Government and Parliament.
