Priestland s Progress

Gerald wonders what on earth Jesus was doing on the cross. Was He paying the price? Setting us an example? Absorbing evil? Placating a vengeful potentate? Was Jesus God acting as man, or man aspiring to be God? Whichever way you look at it, there is immense power in the suffering of this man – and in His resurrection.

Questions:

  1. The road to Calvary Cross led through Gethsemane Garden. Could Jesus have said “No”?
  2. If he had said “No”‑ what difference would it make?
  3. A good man dying – or God and humanity back in touch ‑ two ways of understanding the Cross. Which is the more important? Which means more to you? And why?
  4. Hang on though. Aren’t we forgetting the Resurrection? Isn’t that what made the world of difference ….?
  5. Calvary and the empty tomb ‑ what difference do they make to you now?

“When I see God there in that situation, I find that I have an encounter with Him and it is in that encounter that I find my inadequacies compensated for and my frustrations healed and my sins forgiven.”
