Travellers Tales
Patrick Forbes has been something of a mentor to me. I’ve known him since I was a teenager, when my mum persuaded him to teach her probably rather boringly obsessed daughter some basics about radio. Patiently, and encouragingly, he did. Here we are 30-odd years later, and, in what feels like a wonderful piece of serendipity, I’m sitting in the Travellers Tales chair he decided to vacate after 700 shows. So it’s certainly time for his turn in the hotseat, to be asked that question he’s asked 700 others: how did you first bump into God?
He talks about the long periods at sea as a young man which put him in touch with God’s elemental power, how he prefers the idea of God having hopes, rather than a plan, for our lives, and, in typical Forbes style, describes his call to ministry as rising damp creeping up your socks! And, of course, what it’s been like talking to 700 inspiring people, for Travellers Tales. Hope you can join me, with Patrick Forbes, on Sunday at 7.
