Be Still Know

John 14:3 NLT

‘When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.’

Crime agencies such as the FBI are increasingly dependent upon biometrics in solving crime. Biometrics are those characteristics that uniquely distinguish one individual from another. We’re all familiar with fingerprints, which are unique and formed in the womb; even identical twins have different fingerprints. However, there are other biometrics such as DNA, palm prints, irises, voice patterns and facial patterns.

We worship a God who is deeply invested in the very art, as well as the act, of creation, ensuring that every child conceived is a unique expression of himself. Not only do we each bear a unique imprint of the creator, God loves each one of us uniquely and individually. We are known and personally invited by Jesus to step from this life into the next and inhabit our own home in heaven.

As I write, we are considering the need to sell the Oratory together with my mother’s house so that she might live with us, yet retain her independence within a safe and secure environment. The plan is straightforward on paper, yet it’s clear in our conversation that there are a wide variety of requests for the new accommodation. This reflects the personalities of all of us involved in this move. Not simply Jayne, myself and Mum, who’ll be living together, but also the thoughts of my brother and sister who carry concerns for us all.

Every house has its own characteristics and we warm to some and not to others. Compromises will eventually have to be made. Yet there are no such compromises with Jesus. He meets us individually. Just as we are created with unique biometrics, so God knows our unique personalities and crafts the way that first finds us and then brings us to our eventual home.

QUESTION: Do you believe that you are unique and that God knows you intimately?

PRAYER: Father, I am so grateful that you are not distant and that I am not just another nameless being, but just as you made me, you know me.
