Oasis UK charity recruits teacher Shinnel Paras as Head of Education at Crystal Palace FC Academy

A new joint venture between the charity Oasis UK and Crystal Palace FC Academy will provide a comprehensive education programme for young footballers.

Shinnel Paras, 26, has been appointed to head the pioneering project, designed to help young footballers fulfil their potential on and off the pitch.

North London-born Shinnel, is a graduate in Business Studies. She studied in Birmingham, London and Miami and is currently head of sixth form at Oasis Academy Enfield in London.

Crystal Palace FC is investing £20m in a state-of-the-art Category 1 footballing centre as part of its training facility in Beckenham, which includes the innovative education and care approach, part of CPFC’s Player Care strategy for its young players.

Shinnel Paras and the education team will introduce educational support from GCSE through to A Level, alongside a bespoke character education curriculum developed by the Oasis UK charity to enhance the emotional awareness and personal resilience of young players. Known as the ‘9 Habits’, it includes being honest, self-controlled, compassionate and humble. Oasis UK runs 52 Academy schools and is known for its youth mentoring work.

Shinnel Paras said:

“My aim is to set the standard among footballing academies. I want boys at Crystal Palace FC Academy to achieve their potential academically and socially, as well as in terms of their footballing ability. Our goal is also to create a strong emphasis on character development to help our young players cope with the highs and lows of the sport and of life in general. It’s all about what they go on to do with their whole lives, on or off the pitch, because of their amazing experience at the Academy.

“We are now recruiting a team of Education Tutors, who are passionate about holistic education, to work with our young players. Candidates can apply at www.oasisuk.org/jobs.”

Martin Prickett, Crystal Palace FC Head of Education, said:

“We are delighted to have appointed Oasis to provide the education programme at the new enhanced Crystal Palace Academy. We spoke to many of the country’s leading education providers and Oasis were the standout choice for us, marrying educational excellence with a nurturing character-building approach.” Ends
