Do you ever read parts of the Bible and think – I don’t understand why God chose to pass such judgement or give such a command?

In the Old and New Testament we see multiple scenarios where men and women of God struggle with His instructions and judgements – Jonah’s reluctance to obey God and help the people of Nineveh, or Job in his seemingly unwarranted hardships.

Rev HELEN PAYNTER – Director of the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence, and Coordinator of Community Learning – has written  a new book exploring questions around violence in the bible.

It’s called God of Violence Yesterday, God of Love Today? Last week she joined Craig Wakeling on the line from Bristol – and he began by asking HELEN  why she decided to tackle this age old question…
