Inspirational Breakfast with Esther Higham
There’s been a call to clear the homeless out of Winsor ahead of the royal wedding.
Simon Dudley, the conservative leader of the royal borough of Windsor tweeted from his skiing holiday and said there had been an “epidemic of rough sleeping and vagrancy in Windsor” and “residents have had enough of this exploitation of residents and tourists!”
In a letter to Thames Valley police he said the council has device that a large number of adults begging in Windsor are not actually homeless – if they are homeless they are choosing to reject all support services. In the case of homelessness amongst this group – it is therefore a voluntary choice.
He is suggesting that the Thames valley police use their powers under existing laws including the 1834 vagrancy act that criminalised rough sleeping and begging.
