Every December, the Christmas trees go up, Churches hold carol services, and children re-enact the story of the Nativity during their school assemblies.

The stories are sometimes the same, so it can be easy to find yourself drifting off as you hear them again and again.

Michael Morpurgo, the former Children’s Laureate and much-celebrated author of children’s books spotted this problem as he read during a Nine Lessons and Carols Service. To rectify the problem, Michael re-worked the Nativity story and imagined it afresh in a book, ‘On Angels Wings’. He is performing at a special Christmas Concert on Tuesday 8 December at St John’s Smith Square London, and spoke to Inspirational Breakfast about why he wanted to rewrite the Christmas story.
