Under the orders of Kaiser Wilhelm II, the German army went to war in August 1914 and became embroiled in a conflict which took the lives of 37 million people worldwide. As part of HOPE Together’s Silent Night event at Crystal Palace, his great-great-grandson Prince Philip Kiril of Prussia is asking for forgiveness for Wilhelm’s failure to prevent the outbreak of World War One, and joins the commemoration of the Christmas Truce of 1914.
“I hope that we can be reminded of what Christmas is all about, because this Christmas Truce which took place was a wonder. But it would have been a much greater wonder if this war hadn’t have happened”
Prince Philip spoke to John and Esther about his great-great-grandfather, the Christmas Truce, and his work as a Lutheran Pastor.
