That’s exactly what’s happened to Father Stuart Long whose incredible life forms the basis of the film FATHER STU, starring the Christian actor and producer Mark Wahlberg.Stu Long was a hard-drinking, foul-mouthed amateur boxer, who after falling in love with a catholic woman goes to church to impress her.
A near-fatal accident causes him to re-think his life, and he feels called to give up his love affair and become a priest. As if that journey wasn’t hard enough, he is diagnosed with a degenerative condition part way through his training. He carried out his priestly role from his wheelchair until his death on 2014.
