National charity Care for the Family is launching a new activity designed to help Christian parents share their faith with their children.
‘The Big Scrumptious faith-filled Feast’ encourages parents and the wider church family to share their own stories of God with their children, while eating together. The concept is based around a specially designed family activity placemat for the table and is intended as a simple outworking of faith at home.
“Both parents and churches have an important role to play when it comes to inspiring children to develop a lasting faith,” says Project Manager Becky Denharder.
“Psalm 78:4 says ‘We will tell the next generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, his power and the wonders he has done’ but it can be hard to know where to begin when it comes to sharing faith. That’s why we’ve developed ideas like The Big Scrumptious faith-filled Feast – to help give parents and churches some fun, easy opportunities to tell the next generation what God has done in their lives.”
The concept is very flexible. Churches and families can order copies of the activity sheet and use it to suit their context. At its simplest, a family can order copies of the activity sheet and enjoy completing it together. When combined with food, the activity sheet becomes a placemat and talking point for a family meal at home, or a wider meal with other families. Churches can put on a shared meal or run an all-age service using the free resources provided.
“Whenever we pass on the stories of our faith we are building in younger people a sense of connectedness – of belonging. We need that feeling of belonging and shared history so much – in our family and in our family of faith,” says Rob Parsons OBE, Founder and Chairman of Care for the Family. “How it helps us if we can say in our heart ‘These are my people – this is where I belong’.”
“The Feast can be anything from a brunch to afternoon tea or a midnight feast!” adds Becky. “We are asking people to follow the Bible’s lead and share stories of God’s goodness with the next generation.”
The Big Scrumptious faith-filled Feast is the latest idea to come out of the charity’s Kitchen Table Project – a movement of mums, dads and carers coming together to support each other, learn from one another and share ideas in order to inspire faith in our children.
