Inspirational Breakfast with Esther Higham

With children playing video games more at this time, it can be a worry about the effects of upscaling this hobby. Andy Robertson spoke to us with details on how to ensure your children’s gaming is not only safe, but a healthy part of life.In a recent event with YMCA Exeter, held before the lock down, he took parents through a crash course of how video games can be a positive part of life, rather than a cause for arguments and concern. His book Taming Gaming, is supported by YMCA Exeter, and is out in January. But his gaming database of advice is available now for parents and carers. It offers loads of healthy game recommendations. One father explained how he travelled 50 miles to attend the event as the topic is very important to him and he wants to understand how to support his son who enjoys gaming and is on the autism spectrum. As Andy explained in our discussion, video games can offer more than just entertainment. He provided the following lists to get you started in your family:Games To Be A Good Neighbour: Offering Calm: to Keep You Fit: also has some Christian meditations on video games, published in YCW (Youth and Children’s Work Magazine), that pair a bible verse and a game for discussion: you want more details on the PEGI age ratings and Console Safety Settings, visit the Get SMART About Play campaign at

Andy Robertson is a Freelance Journalist. Working recently with YMCA Exeter to help and support parents with Gaming Simon Tuck caught up with him.
