Christian Aid is taking a long-term approach to addressing the deeper causes of malnutrition in South Sudan. The project aims to improve both the awareness of and access to basic nutrition, primarily amongst women of child-bearing age and children under the age of five.

Christian Aid began work in 1945, founded by British and Irish churches to help refugees following the Second World War. For more than 70 years they have provided humanitarian relief and long-term development, support for poor communities worldwide, while highlighting suffering, tackling injustice and championing people’s rights.

Last Christmas we were raising awareness of their work. Christian Aid South Sudan is based in Juba. They draw on the expertise of colleagues from other Christian Aid teams across Africa and the world, staff at their UK headquarters and networks in South Sudan.

We spoke to Rosamond Bennett CEO of Christian Aid Ireland. She has recently visited South Sudan and we asked her to give us a general picture of what was happening in this war-torn country:
